Vive la France! NODA award winning concert

We are pleased to announce that our French concert won the NODA award for best concert in the Liverpool Area

VIVE LA FRANCE OPERA SUPPER
OPERA VIVA
ST MARY’S COLLEGE, CROSBY
Review by RON ELLIS

After a delicious meal of French food and wine, we were treated to an entertaining selection of music with a notable Gallic flavour.
With excellent piano accompaniment by the talented Robert Chester, the thirty strong members of the company, the gentlemen in evening dress and the ladies resplendent in glamorous gowns, offered a varied programme of songs including selections from Les Miserables; Offenbach’s ‘Bold Gendarmes’ (complete with police uniforms); Cole Porter’s ‘I Love Paris’; a couple of Edith Piaf songs plus operatic arias by, among others, Offenbach, Delibes, Gounod and Bizet. All performed to Opera Viva’s  customary high standard.
Guest soloist for the evening was Lorna Rushton who, in a widely travelled career, has sung with Pavarotti.
The company’s next presentation will be Lehar’s ‘The Merry Widow’ next April.
A most convivial evening
